West Plains Habitat for Humanity Re-Store is open Thursday, and Friday
8 to 5, and Saturday 9 to 1. It’s on Porter Wagoner Blvd in West
Plains. They sell used building materials and take donations of the
same.

U.S. Representative JoAnn Emerson will tour Great Rivers Distributing’s
new facility, Thursday July 3rd, 9 a.m. At 10:30 a.m. she will tour
Ozarks Medical Center’s Cardiac Facility and meet with new CEO
Dave Zechman. At noon Emerson will be at the West Plains Chamber of
Commerce Meeting to provide a congressional update focus on the energy
policy. The Chamber meeting is at the West Plains Civic Center.
CBCO will have a blood drive Thursday July 3rd, 5 to 8:30 pm, at Liberty
Faith Christian Academy, 147 E. Jackson Street, in Norwood. There is
a Code Yellow Alert for type A negative, O negative and O positive blood.
The West Plains Chamber of Commerce luncheon is Thursday July 3rd at
noon at the West Plains Civic Center, cost of the lunch is $8.00. Speaker
is from the University of Missouri Extension on the 4-H program, special
guest speaker Representative Joanne Emerson. The lunch is sponsored
by Norman Orr Office Supply, catered by Chucks’ Ozark Mtn. BBQ.
The West Plains Car Club meeting will be July 3rd, at Luigi’s
Pizza on Gibson Avenue. The meal is at 6 pm, the meeting at 7 . Membership
is due, the dues run from July 1st to June 31st. $15 for single membership,
and $20 for family membership.
A Tax Consultant will be at the West Plains Senior Center Thursday
July 3rd, 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon to help with the Stimulas Plans, MO-RX,
or help with other problems concerning P.T.C. or taxes. Call for an

Friday July 4th is a Holiday, state and federal offices will be closed,
there is no mail delivery that day. In Mtn. View, West Plains and Willow
Springs, City Halls will be closed Friday . Willow and Mtn. View’s
trash route will be run on Monday July 7th.
Festivities for the Fourth of July in Willow Springs will kick off
at 8 a.m. at Booster Field with the dedication of the Robert Wehmer
Farmers Memorial Ceremony. The market will be open Friday morning before
the parade. (at 10).
The annual Fourth of July Parade in downtown Willow is Friday July
4th, 10 a.m. line up will be at 9 am at Booster Field. All businesses
and civic organizations are encouraged to participate as well as churches,
armed forces, fire trucks, red vehicles, scout troops and individuals.
Clowns, if you want to be a clown, come to the Star Annex from 8 to
9:30 July 4th to get ready. Clown suits of all sizes will be available
as well as make up artists or you can create your own character. A flatbed
trailer will be provided if you want to ride instead of walk.Call Jane

The First Fourth of July Community Picnic will be held July 4th at
the Willow Springs city park by the municipal pool. It starts immediately
after the parade and continues til 2. There will be free admission at
the pool, from 10 am to 2 pm, hotdogs and lemonade will be provided,
bring a dish to pass and lawn chair. There will be games for kids of
all ages including water balloon toss, three legged races, horse shoes

The Willow Springs First General Baptist Church Independence Day Celebration
is Friday, July 4th. at 6:00 p.m. with our first flag raising ceremony
and a tribute to all Veterans in attendance, with an individual gift
to each one. The event is free to the public. First General Baptist
Church will provide free entertainment, free pig roast and free fireworks
show at dark. You are welcome to bring a side dish if you would like

The annual Charles Barnhart Five, a 5,000 meter run and one mile walk/run
will be held Friday July 4th, 8 a.m. at Zizzer Stadium. Call Zizzer

The Eminence Chamber of Commerce will have an old Fashioned Fourth
of July Picnic at the old ball park by the river. Everything starts
at 10 a.m. Friday July 4th, til 10 pm. Music, Fiddlers, Square Dancing
and Horseshoe Pitching, Dunking Booth, and other games. Everyone’s
invited.
Fort D Historic Site will have re-enactors of the Turner Brigade and
friends from the Civil War Roundtable of Cape Girardeau Friday July
4th, from 9 am to 9 pm. No admission. Fort D is an original earthworks
fort dating from 1861, it’s located off Sprigg Street, four blocks
south of Route 74, cape Girardeau.
Qualifying for Super Stock at the West Plains Speedway starts at 7:30
with hotlaps Friday July 4th, racing at 8 pm. The Speedway is located
6 miles south of West Plains on U. S. Highway 63.
J-Lo’s in Willow Springs and the Eleven Point Fire Department
will have a BBQ and bluegrass by “Just Friends” Friday night,
July 4th, 6 pm, with fireworks at dusk. Everyone’s welcome. Bring
lawn chairs!
Cross Country Trail Ride in Eminence will celebrate Independence Day
July 4th, dance with Jonsey at 8 pm, large Fireworks show at dark, admission
just $10.
Birch Tree will have fireworks at 9:30 pm Friday July 4th, at Reaser
Field, Concessions by the Birch Tree Volunteer Fire Department, everyone’s
invited.
The Mtn. View Alumni Association will hold its annual banquet Saturday
July 5th, 7 pm at the Mtn. View Family Youth Center, 3rd and Bay Streets.
The Classes of 1948, 1958, and 1968 will be honored. Prior to the banquet,
a hospitality room will be open from noon to 4 pm at the United Methodist

Summer Saturday Social on the Square inWinona will be Sat. July 5th,
6 to 10 pm, Winona Chamber invites Musicians, bring your acoustic instruments
and join in for old time, picking and singing, food, fundraisers, crafters,
all welcome no charge, no reservations. Must furnish your own trash
container, bring lawn chairs and join in. Rays BBQ will have a cake
walk.
The Eminence Chamber of Commerce presents Donkey Baseball, Saturday
July 5th, 7 pm at the Old Ball Park. Local Celebrity Riders and teams,
tickets $5 in advance from Security Bank and Community Bank N.A. $7
at the gate.
Thomasville’s Independence Day Celebration will be held Saturday,
July 5th, 4 pm at the Eleven Point Valley Community Center in Thomasville.
Free fireworks at dark, concessions will be open, Kids games, and free
music by HeyWyre from Ash Flat Arkansas.
Firecracker Weekend is at the West Plains Motor Speedway Saturday July
5th, admission $15 for adults $5 for kids. Gates open 6 pm , hotlaps
at 7:30, racing at 8. Located 6 miles south of West Plains on Highway
63.

The Banks of Willow Springs are sponsoring a Junior Golf Tournament
at the Willow Springs Municipal Golf Course, Wednesday July 9th, boys
and girls divisions for ages 6 to 9, 8:30 a.m, playing 6 holes: 10 to
12, 10 a.m. playing 9 holes; 13 to 14, 12 noon playing 9 holes, and
15 to 18, 12 noon, playing 18 holes. Trophies awarded in all flights,

The deadline to register to vote in the Primary election August 5th,
is Wednesday July 9th, 5 pm. Persons who have registered but have moved
need to transfer their registration in order to avoid delays. You can

CBCO is planning a blood drive Friday July 11th, 11:30 a.m. to 5:30
pm at the Mtn. View Community Center, 125 West First Street. Another
Blood drive will be held in Ava that day, from 1 to 5 pm at Scroll Compressors
1400 NW 3rd Street….and in Lickin a blood drive will be the same
day from 2 to 6 pm at the United Methodist Church. A Code Yellow Alert

A dance will be held at the West Plains Senior Center Friday July 11th,
7 to 9:30, all ages are welcome, admission $3.
The Annual Van Zant Picnic, is Friday and Saturday July 11th and 12th,
activities begin at 6 pm each night, featuring the Ozarks Best Bluegrass
music, bring lawn chairs. There’s be bingo, funnel cakes, contests,
burgers and dogs, a cake walk, and door prizes. Saturday night at 9:30
the Van Zant fireworks show begins, with proceeds going to maintain

The 2008 Truck Pull at the Douglas County Fair in Ava begins Friday

The Avenue Theatre will present “The Secret Garden” July
11th , 12th, 14th and 15th. Evening performances are 7 pm except Sunday

The second Saturday Downtown Stroll on the Square in West Plains is
Saturday July 12th, 5 to 8. Free music and art exhibits.
A Bluegrass Gospel Concert by KUKU/KWPM will be held at the West Plains
Civic Center Theatre, Saturday July 12th, 6 pm. Featured Artists, The
Far City Boys of North Carolina, with Jim Orchard and the Ozark Bluegrass
Boys opening. Tickets are $10 each, Tickets are available at KUKU and
the Fox Studios, KWPM and Aids Antique Mall in West Plains.
The Willow Springs Fire Department will have their first annual 18
hole, 2 person scramble golf tournament Sat. July 12th. at the Willow
Springs Municipal Golf Course. Entry fee is $65, tee times, 8 a.m. and
12:30 pm. All proceeds will go to complete the John Miller Memorial

The Heart of the Ozarks Fair in West Plains Opens Sunday July 13th,
through Saturday, July 19th. Fair line up, Sunday and Monday nights,
the Rodeo is at 7:30 pm: Tuesday and Wednesday, 8 pm, the Bull Buck
opens: Thursday 7:30 is the Tractor Pull and Friday 7:30, the Truck
Pull. Saturday July 19th, the Demolition Derby gets underway at 7 pm
Summersville City Council will meet Monday evening, July 14th, 6:30
p.m.
The American Red Cross will have a blood drive Wednesday July 16th,
12 noon to 5 pm at the Masonic Lodge Hall in Gainesville. When you give

Absentee Ballots are now available at the Howell County Clerks office

Ozark Action is conducting “Back to School” Fairs in August,
to supply low income children in grades kindergarten through eighth
grade with school supplies. The fair for Mtn. View is August 1st, 1
to 4 pm. Families must pre-register before August 1st, for details and

The First Annual Back to School Celebration in Mtn. View will be held
August 2nd at the Family Youth Center in Mtn.View, as 500 plus backpacks
will be given to children of the Mtn. View Liberty R-3 School District
free. The backpacks will be filled with much needed school supplies.

Ronald McDonald will perform in the Community Room at the West Plains
Library Tuesday August 5th, 10:30 that morning. Individuals are welcome

The George D. Hay Society will host an honor ceremony Sat. August 16th
at the West Plains Civic Center to induct the Dillard’s, Ferlin
Husky and the Wilburn Brothers into their Hall of Honor.
Nature Photographs titled “Great and Grand, Sand Dunes and Tetons”
by Dennis Crider will be on exhibit at the Harlin Museum in West Plains,
August 19th through Sept. 13th

The Ozarks Steam Engine Show is set for Sept. 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th,
gates open at 8 a.m. located 8 miles west of Springfield on Highway
60. Admission is $5 per person, children 12 and under free. Steam Engine,
Antique Tractors, truck, and a Classic Tractor Pull is Friday night
at 6 pm. An antique pre 1938 tractor pull is Saturday night at 6 pm.
